Mainstreaming The SDGS Into The Career Aspirations of Nigerian Youth Through Digital Skills and Innovation

It has become important and urgent that somebody help the Nigerian Youth – Corps Members “to know the truth” about what they need to do to get the Decent Jobs & Build the Successful Business that they so badly desire.

SDG 8 Target i & ii present an amazing guidelines to the direction that the effort of our youth should be deployed and how. Hence the need to “Mainstream The Career Aspiration of the Youth Through Digital Skills & Innovation” based on:

(i) Sustain per capita economic growth in accordance with national circumstances and, in particular, at least 7 per cent gross domestic product growth per annum in the least developed countries

(ii) Achieve higher levels of economic productivity through DIVERSIFICATION, TECHNOLIGY upgrading and INNOVATION, including through a focus on high-value added and LABOUR-INTENSIVE SECTORS

In the World Bank 2013 World Development Report, research shows that out of 3.2 BILLION Productive people contributing to the global GDP, over 1.8 BILLION work in non formal sectors.

The report also came to a strong conclusion that Jobs are necesaary for Development. Jobs are NOT only an outcome but a driver of Economic growth. It follows therefore that the Goals 8 of the SDGs presents a template for the achievement of all the other 16 Goals of the SDG’S.

SDG’S MAINSTREAMING

As part of effort to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Orelope-Adefulire working with diverse stakeholders, has been intensifying effort to ensure proper mainstreaming of the SDGs into the National and sub-national Development Plans, Policies and Strategies.”

The successes recorded in this effort includes the; aligning of the SDGs as the matrix for measuring the success of the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan – NERGP2017. This and many more was reported at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC) in New York on July 2017.

Consequently, in view of the need to step down and stimulate a STRONG MICROECONOMIC platform for the Mainstreaming effort, MindtheGap recently proposed and has received approval from the Director General to include the Mainstreaming Programme in the 2017 Batch A NYSC Orientation Camp opening on July 26, 2017.

We shall be training and engaging the 70,000 plus Corps Member in a 2 hours Mainstraeaming The SDG’S Through Digital Skill & Innovation Boot Camp on Saturday August 5th, 2017 Nationwide.

The SDGs Champion and Youth/Career Mainstreaming is in line with the Goal 8 targets 1 & 2 of the SDGS:
